Seeing Dhimsa in the Araku Valley

The Araku Valley — coffee country in the Eastern Ghats, about 110 km inland from Visakhapatnam — is Dhimsa's home ground, and the one place a visitor can reliably see it performed.

Practical notes

Araku is a comfortable day trip from Visakhapatnam by train or road, better with an overnight stay. The pleasant season is roughly October to February; the festival months of March–April are hotter but are when village Dhimsa is most likely. Photography at performances is normally welcome; at village events, ask first — you are a guest at a celebration, not an audience at a show.
